About Us
In the sparsely populated Fife Valley, Bea and Johnny Meaker opened Johnny's at Fife Restaurant and Lounge in 1968, along with the adjacent motel, called Johnny's Golden Door. Due to its close proximity to Interstate 5, between Seattle and Tacoma, it seemed like the perfect location. This was one of several restaurants opened by the Meakers. The first being Crawford's Sea Grill in 1944, followed by Johnny's Dock and Johnnys on the Mall. A similar restaurant and hotel arrangement was also built in Reno, Nevada.
Bea and Johnny were a match made in heaven. Johnny spent his earlier years as a butcher and then a restaurateur. Bea has a jewelry shop in downtown Tacoma called Wings. Together, they combined their talents and each restaurant  had a small gift shop complete with jewelry, stuffed animals and of course, a complete line of Johnny's Seasoning products. Bea Meaker, voted Tacoma Mall's Business Woman of the Year in 1985, was quite a saleswoman. She started selling Johnny's Seasonsing Salt in hand-filled bottles with typed labels at the Seattle's World Fair in 1962. Now Johnny's has more than 35 products in their line of seasonings and salad dressings.
The motel has since been sold to Motel 6, but the restaurant is still family owned and operated by Bea and Johnny Meaker's grandson John and his wife Anita.
